3. Announcements - Terry Anderson informed the Life Cycle of the presentation the area preventionists coalition had made on Jan. 13 to four NM Cabinet Secretaries in Santa Fe. The group asked to highlighted prevention instead of intervention in the state, hoping to save the state money. They asked to do a research project on families in the system and trace back their first contact with the system so they can see where the system needs to be strengthened to catch people at the first brush with the system. They will know in Feb. if they received funding for the project.
Kendra Milligan presented the First Born 2nd Quarterly report to the Life Cycle. The report is on file at the Grant County Community health Council for review at 1310 32nd St.
4. Old Business
A new Life Cycle Consumer co chair for the Preconception to Preteen Life Cycle has been found. Blanca Jaure will be joining the Life Cycle.
5. New Business - Worked on Strategic Plan (see Strategic Plan attachment to be forthcoming)
The Life Cycle spent the time brainstorming on the Play Day idea. Anderson pointed out that the “Week of the Young Child” was April 10 -17 and we might want to set in then. The group set the Play Day event on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Ideas discussed for the Play Day are:
Grandparents and seniors should be contacted for games they played as a child through the media.
Get senior stories of the local area and have El Grito Head Start and WNMU After school students work on a play with costumes and scenery to put on in the amphitheater.
Strolling music. Ideas to contact WNMU music students and maybe people who perform at the Twisted Vine and other community musicians was agreed to.
A possible picnic or potluck. We might be able to provide food like hotdogs and sodas and at that time survey people about the day.
SWAEYA at WNMU might be willing to sponsor the event.
To call Jack Ellis about scenery and staging with the help of WNMU drama students.
Tie in for “Silver City a great place to raise a family” that brings families together to learn about services in Grant County.
It was agreed a subcommittee would be formed with Alice Jones ( jonesa3@wnmu.edu) and Kendra Milligan( media@gcchc.org ) as chairs for the project, other members are encouraged to contact them to get involved we need help getting this vast project planned.
Vicki Johnson pointed out we need a pre and post measures so this day can be used to secure funding for future projects. Kendra will contact Jane Olson, Grant County Community Health Council evaluator, to find a good tool to use for measuring the Play Day's success.
The next Preconception to Preteen Life Cycle meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Life Quest Early Intervention on Alabama St.
