II. January Minutes Approved
III. Focus on Agenda
Two focuses were discussed:
1. Play Day
2. Safety for children/ Creating a safe environment for children to play.
The group spent time returning to the safety issue as an overall focus.
Additional topics discussed were family safety, community safety and how to tie all these together, so children and parents can feel more secure when children go outside to play.
IV. Returned to the Focus on safety with some new ideas:
Contacting people who work in the community such as police, and fire departments to get their opinion on what needs to be done to make the community safer.
 Anti-Bully school campaign was suggested.
Safe School and Safe Community awareness group to promote comprehensive anti-bully programs in schools.
V. Play Day
Update on Play Day from Kendra Milligan:
 Penny Park has been reserved.
WNMU students will be telling stories at the event.
There is currently a newspaper article asking for games and stories from the community.
SWAYC will be providing the food.
The time of the play day has changed! It will now be taking place from 11a.m. - 1p.m. on April 17th
Play Day ideas in progress:
Interviewing seniors at the senior center to get stories and games.
 Radio Advertisement
Contacting culturally diverse musicians to perform at the play day.
There was also suggestions for healthier food to be served.
Possibly getting donations from area grocery stores.
Creating a system of focus for the families, 8; 15 minute time segments was suggested.
Idea for continuing Play Days was presented. This would be a spin off from the Play Day into more community focused play days. Blocking off the street in a community and allowing the children to spend time outside playing. Police and city government involvement would be needed. The creation of Police Athletic leagues was also mentioned as a way for the community to be more involved with children.
Committees have been designated for the up-coming Play Day function. The committees include
Media Committee
Entertainment Committee
Equipment Committee
Logistics / Games Committee
