Pandemic Flu Town Halls
Listening to Communities: Pandemic Flu and You
Listening to Communities invites Grant County residents to join together to figure out
how our communities could survive a global outbreak of disease a pandemic. The
effects of an influenza pandemic will reach every sector of our communities:
Health-care systems will be overloaded and medical supplies inadequate
Schools and businesses will close and events will be cancelled
Supplies including food and medicines will be difficult to obtain
Services such as water, electricity, and natural gas may be cut off
You cant stop a pandemic but you can prepare. Please attend a Listening to
Communities meeting to find out the latest information about the threat and take part
in creating an organized response to pandemic conditions.

The Deadliest Epidemic: The Spanish Influenza Outbreak, 1918-1919

Join medical historian Griffon Campbell for a look at the deadliest outbreak of influenza in history. The Spanish flu (which is now thought to have started in Kansas) traveled three times throughout the earth 1918-1919, killing off more people than the Black Death (bubonic plague). Learn what happened during the 1918-1919 pandemic and how it affected Silver City. Dr. Campbell will also discuss the basics about how viruses work - and why health organizations worldwide are concerned that another pandemic is on the way.
