Review of Family Resiliency Mission
Vikki thinks that the plan is on target
It is in line with the speaker from last weekend. The speaker emphasized increasing the number of positive contacts/relationships that children have.
Improve informal support system
Four Seasons of Fun-what happened for summer, fall, and winter
The family Resiliency mission is good
Community Concerns for Families
Community Center in Silver-we don't have a non-agency place to meet
Need a place that is comfortable that people feel comfortable coming to
Lillian thinks that there needs to be a place for kids to meet
New places coming:
Movie theatre near old and new Wal-Marts. Group should try to find a way to give discounted prices so that children can go. Right now, it's hard for whole families to go because costs are too high. Maybe there is grant funding that can help to defer these costs, this way kids in the county have someplace to go to stay out of trouble
Action team needs to find other new outdoor and indoor “active” activities
The community needs to have more activities to encourage physical activity and ways for children to stay out of trouble. Some of the suggestions were: miniature golf, bike rentals at trail sites, and a skating rink.
Strategy: figure out how to make action team not just providers
Changing Kiosk to Albertsons or Food Basket or Restaurants in community
Don't give up on the idea of a community events/programs kiosk somewhere in the community. If we didn't have it at Wal-Mart it would take more work because Wal-Mart is a central location that many community members go to.
Follow up with Susie Trujillo about kiosk in Wal-Mart
Next Meeting:
January 17, 2006-possible change in which week it is (not 3rd Wednsesday) to 2nd Wednesday
