Maria (First Born), Grace Rodriguez (First Born), John Eich (GCCHC), Jane
Olson (GCCHC).
Program Updates:
First Born
-Our main funding source comes from the Prevention Bureau which is getting axed so we're expecting major cuts.
-We are interviewing for an 18 hour position that will hopefully be able to be expanded to 30 hrs. This position will cover the prenatal component.
-There will be a March of Dimes Pregnancy Workshop March 17, 8:30-4pm presented by Chris Jepson. Attendees will learn how to train others in both a group setting and in a one-on-one home setting.
DOH Families Entitled and NMSU PreSchool Program
-UNM has a computer with access to medical information that needs a home,
anybody can use it, if you have a child in your program with a specific
medical issue, you can use this computer. (discussion: public library is not
a good place because the staff need to be trained in how to teach others
how to search the database. Family Support Center and Life Quest
Early Intervention are both interested.)
-Center for Development and Disability has a library with lots of videos and
information for the public to use, we just need a place for it. Donna Flemkin
and Kathleen will work on the outreach component.
-Kathleen has provided this Life Cycle with all forms for the CEU
accreditation process. Contact Jane Olson for assistance with making CEUs
available at your next training.
Discussion: We need a Pre-Pre Resource Directory designed to include resources just for parents. It could be a packet that the hospital could give to parents like what the First Born program offers-their Fiesta Bag. It needs to be a single page, like DOH's Grant County Maternal-Child Resources page with numbers and contacts. But, people need to be oriented on how to use it rather than just handed a piece of paper. Each listing needs to tell why the parents would call that program or organization. It could be something that can be handed out at the hospital in the delivery room or at the pediatrician's office. It could be on a resource board where parents go-Penny Park or Family Support Centers. For now, we could have a sign with 10 most asked questions by parents, and then, for answers call Family Support Center. They are fielding all calls that first come to Health Link. We need Kendra here to talk about the Resource Directory with her. If there is a new resource that any of us hear about that is not in the directory, email Jane, pretoprelc@gcchc.org, and she will forward the information along with compiling for consideration to be included in main Resource Directory and in a potential Pre-Pre Resource Directory.
Grant County Community Health Council
-introducing John Eich, Life Cycle Coordinator and Community Health Facilitator
-in order to appease funding sources (and continue to be funded!) for the activities of this Life Cycle, we need to show the state that we are doing things other than setting up these meetings. So the more Pre-pre activities/resources that develop outside of the regularly scheduled meetings, the more funding!
-research is being done for measuring the resiliency of families in Grant County and the point of this is for the families to make the judgements
Family Support Center-Bayard
-Lupe Maldonado has moved to the Silver City FSC. Beatrice M. Leeyu is new on board at the Bayard FSC as the new Promatora.
-providing information and referrals
-Took part in a two-day diabetes educator training in Santa Fe
-all centers have computers with internet service for public use
-open 9:30-5
Resource not listed in Resource Directory: Angel Flight will fly folks to Albuquerque who have no insurance and no way to get there for hospital appointments. It just has to be arranged a week in advance. Again, when we find a new resource, contact Jane, pretoprelc@gcchc.org, and she will email the info to everyone else.
La Relaciones
-Shauna is leaving for three years to get a Family Nurse Practitioners degree, but don't worry, she'll be back!
-She has to figure out what to do with her grant money, she needs to transfer her Adolescent Family Prevention funding to somebody else
Family Support Center-Mimbres Valley
-hope to build a big, new building in between EMS and clinic
-providing Medication Assistance Program
-working with Jamie to try and bring his bike program into San Lorenzo schools
-working with Mrs. Guzman to try and get into school cafeteria to get coke out and juice in
