New Business:
Life Cycle's Priorities -> Grant County Health Council's Strategic Plan
This is not to create more work but, to have the blessing of the Health Council when writing grants for funding our priorities. Also, the State's DOH is becoming more outcome oriented and wants the Life Cycles to have a strategic planning process so that they can fund our activities based on us fulfilling these types of organizational requirements.
Can we combine our priorities into three objectives rather than picking three?
How about under a Mental Health objective: ATOD prevention, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Mental Health Providers with expertise in working with families and children. Then under a Health Care objective: family planning, sexually transmitted disease prevention and treatment, prenatal care, breastfeeding support, immunizations, well-child checks, children with medical insurance and a medical provider. And then under a Family Wellness/Support/Outreach objective: Home Visitation programs, father involvement, early intervention for children with or at risk for developmental delay, childcare, and include family resource centers (HMS).
We need a teen item; specifics of Teen Pregnancy including Pregnancy Prevention since we're PreConception, Teen Parents, and then also Teen Housing (SWAK).
For the purposes of the strategic plan we can just flip these priorities into action steps like, continue to provide home visitations, parent resources, early intervention and/or family resources. Other action steps can be letters of support, shared trainings, shared resources, service coordination. Outcomes could be like, number of shared resources, cross referrals/inter-agency referrals.
Funds Available for Life Cycle's Needs
The Silver City YWCA initiative has publication costs for their first brochure. They are finishing their strategic planning process and the Silver City YWCA will be in El Paso's overall strategic plan by May. There is a meeting Friday, March 14 to work on Community Childcare and After School programs and programs for THIS summer.
A Fatherhood Initiative would be a great use of our money. We can have a grant written with this money. We need to research who is funding these types of programs. Mentoring money seems to be the source and John will find out about that specifically. La Familia has no reading materials/books/videos on fatherhood and fathers have come in to ask for them. Getting these resources can be part of the grant to be written. We can pay for 33 hours of research/grant writing. John is the best person for the job. We will have a contract written up for John to write a grant for a fatherhood initiative!
SWORD Health Fair
The Life Cycles will have a booth at the health fair and Jane Olson will be staffing it for the beginning of the day. Give her any brochures/information/posters that you want advertised with the Pre-Pre Life Cycle at this event.
Old Business:
Substance Abuse/CPS Reporting Training
Shauna will email Los Pasos again for information on their harm reduction training. We will wait until CPS has a new director to meet with them. We may gather together many groups and programs to undergo a Motivational Interviewing training.
Pre-Pre Resource Directory
We should do something different that the 1-page Maternal-Child Resource list. The entry should be the service being provided and we should be cautious about the limitations of a 1-page resource directory.
Next Meeting: April 9, 11-noon at Life Quest Early Intervention building
